Pine Island Lodging

Art Galleries

Matlacha, as well as other parts of the island, is known worldwide for its art galleries. You can park & walk through Matlacha and easily spend an entire afternoon browsing the many unique shops.

Outer Islands

Pine Island lies about 5 miles from what is known as the “Outer Islands”. These islands expand from Sanibel Island north to Boca Grande. They protect us from storms and have excellent beaches. Ferry services are available to take you there for a day or more. 283-0015

Kayaking

Kayaking is a huge sport here on Pine Island, mostly because of the variety of styles. Fishing from a kayak has become very popular, but most kayakers are just out to enjoy a quiet day on the water. There are businesses on the island that rent kayaks, some deliver & most offer guided tours.

Ghost Tours

Bokeelia resident John Paeno has studied the history of the Calusa Indians for years and offers guided tours through their historical home, Pineland. The Calusa were a very respected and powerful tribe, their story is very interesting. Calusa John shows you the “Mounds” where they lived and also offers kayak and canoe tours. 938-5342

Plane Rides

St. James City resident and pilot Tim McTeague offers an aerial view of Pine Island as well as the outer islands. Watch Dolphins, Manatees, Sharks and other wildlife from a birds eye view.     823-6225  www.kingfisheraerial.com

Fishing

The waters of Pine Island offer some of the best fishing in Florida. You can fish from bridges and piers, plus several professional local guides are available all year long. We’re known statewide for Redfish, Snook, Sheepshead, Trout, Tarpon and Tripletail. Our dock is only minutes from world record catches!

Seafood

From cooking your own fresh seafood to the most tasty seafood breakfast omelet, you’ll find Pine Island to offer some of the best seafood restaurants in the state of Florida, many are within walking distance.

Marina Days

In August, National Marina Days is a yearly event for marinas in the form of a customer appreciation day. Four Winds Marina on Bokeelia (with the Lazy Flamingo Restaurant) has a day of food and live music free to the public.

Museum of the Islands

See dug-out canoes, Calusa Indian shell tools, fossils and more. See tools and clothing from the settlement years. Florida history gift shop. Located in town center (near the pool)

Pine Island Library

The Pine Island Library was established about 40 years ago. It’s open to the public and has quite a selection. They also have a large kids area and computer access. Occasionally you’ll run into local celebrity writers doing research.

Nature walks

The Randell Research Center in Pineland offers a self-walk through the Calusa Indian Mounds with educational signage along the paths. Another interesting walk is the St. Jude Trail in St. James City, a walk through mangrove trails which filter our waters and protect our coast from storms.
